Shopify Editions - Canada 2025: Key Takeaways and Reflections
Loved being part of the 5K+ crowd, partners from 52 countries, and spending time with the awesome folks at Shopify.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure I’d even make it to Canada for Editions, thanks to visa stamping delays. The Canadian embassy definitely kept me on edge—my passport didn’t arrive until the day before my flight!
With no time for pre-trip shopping or scheduling meetings, I just threw my things into a bag and set off. After a 23-hour journey, I still couldn’t quite believe I’d actually made it to Toronto, Canada.
Day 1
Smooth travel, beautiful weather, and the joy of meeting my amazing colleagues — it was already shaping up to be a great trip. But what truly made it special was connecting with our own customers. There's nothing more rewarding than hearing firsthand how they experience our product.
We had a great conversation with the team at Mejuri, who had only positive things to say. I’m still kicking myself for forgetting to snap a photo with the store.
Day 2
The trip wasn’t planned in advance, so I didn’t get a chance to schedule meetings with other partners, app developers, or agencies. Everything felt a bit last-minute — including our spontaneous attempt to join Yotpo’s “Rapid Retention at Niagara Falls” event.
We were still on the waitlist without a confirmation, but we decided to try our luck anyway (with a hidden agenda of exploring Niagara Falls 😄). My colleague and I headed to what we thought was Yotpo’s office — courtesy of a Google search — only to find that it didn’t exist. Still not ready to give up, we found another location listed on their website, went there, and learned from the reception desk that they’d moved out long ago. At that point, we realized this plan wasn’t going anywhere and decided to call it off.
Although we couldn’t make it to the event, we found a nice coffee shop nearby and took a moment to unwind. That’s when something serendipitous happened — my colleague returned with Trudy from Design Packs. It was such a pleasure meeting her, especially hearing how a two-person team was able to support 10,000 merchants. It was a refreshing reminder: you don’t need a massive team to solve meaningful problems — just the right people and the right focus.
Pre-Editions: Techtonic Kick-Off
Later that evening, we joined the Pre-Editions Techtonic party, hosted by the partner community — a perfect way to warm up for Editions.
“Techtonic is a two-day event, starting with an exclusive evening with Mantle and candid conversations with industry leaders, flowing into a full day of content delivered by ecosystem trailblazers and people in the trenches today. Connect with partners. Elevate strategies. Own your growth.”
We had some great initial conversations with:
Reconvert
Beefy Nachos
Upspring.ai
Demoground
There was also an open discussion with Jordan and a panel, though it was a bit hard to follow due to how noisy the venue was. Still, the energy and excitement were unmistakable.
Day 3
A Full Day at TechTonic
TechTonic was a full-day event packed with insightful sessions for both business leaders and developers. The schedule featured a well-balanced mix of technical deep dives and strategic discussions — something for everyone in the ecosystem.

That’s us, recharged and ready, at the end of a full day event :D
Day 4
The day kicked off with a 5K run as part of a Strava event followed by a fantastic breakfast. Although I couldn’t run due to a sprained leg, my team participated and did great. I also had the chance to catch up with folks from PushOwl.

Key Takeaways
Building connections within the community isn’t a one-time event—it’s a daily practice. Be ready to share as much as you want to learn from others.
You don’t need a large tribe to build great apps; a small team of dedicated engineers with good intentions is enough.
I spoke with Patrick and EM from Customer Accounts, who emphasized that their focus isn’t on the shopper’s entire shopping experience. Showing intent where it matters remains Swym’s challenge to solve.
The Markets PM highlighted the importance of keeping markets simple, even though supporting complex scenarios is technically feasible.
Adopt an AI-first mindset in your daily work and product delivery.
Stay active on social media—share Swym’s benefits and be vocal to increase your visibility.
Where ever possible, leverage Shopify’s infrastructure to reduce costs and speed up development.
This was such a great read of everything that happened at this edition of Editions!
